Our third day consisted of exploring the mangroves in Looe Key Marine Sanctuary. We rented a boat, which Sean Carey was the captain of, and ventured to a large mangrove island, where we snorkeled for over five hours.

Looe Key
Our second day of class was a snorkel/scuba trip through Looe Key Reef Resort (LKRR), which is also a dive center. LKRR took us out to the experience the Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary, where we completed two 45 minute dives.
First day of class
Today we explored the Bahia Honda Key State Park, where we surveyed the area for over six hours, and completed a practice transect.

KOA Campground
We stayed at the Sugarloaf Key KOA Campground. It was very nice. There was a laundry facility on site, a bar, gift shop, pool, free wifi (a little slow), a small beach area, and spacious trailers.
Florida Keys
Alejandro A. Vagelli, Ph.D. will be leading Rutgers Camden graduates to the Florida Keys for seven days to gain field work experience in an aquatic setting July 2014. Professor Vagelli is well known for his work about the Bangaii Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni), and is the author of The Bangaii Cardinalfish: Natural History, Conservation, and Culture Pterapogon kauderni (book).
