Our Journey Begins

key_deer_5D_080720_5387Today was a travel day. Everyone convened at the Miami International Airport, and then, journeyed through the remainder parts of Florida south to our destination: Sugarloaf Key. Along the way, when entering Big Pine Key, we came across a huge sign that stated, “Drive with caution, you are entering an endangered species area.” There were large, black wire mesh fences lining the road. The endangered species is the Key Deer. We spotted two of them, one on the way down to Sugarloaf Key, and one near the food store on our return to Big Pine Key.

It is refreshing to see humans actively attempting to save a species from extinction, especially since the damage is most likely from us anyway.
